Internship Guidelines



1. Introduction

The WARSA (Ethnic Knowledge Heritage Society) internship program is designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on learning experiences in ethnobotany, medicinal plants, traditional knowledge documentation, and sustainable practices. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Government of Maharashtraguidelines to promote employability, research aptitude, and entrepreneurship among students.

About WARSA

WARSA (Ethnic Knowledge Heritage Society) is a registered NGO (Registration No. MH/342/2021/Amravati and F-29097) dedicated to the documentation, conservation, and promotion of traditional knowledge systems, medicinal plant resources, and ethnobotanical research. The organization collaborates with tribal and rural communities, universities, research institutions, and government bodies to enhance awareness and provide practical solutions for sustainable development. WARSA has established MoUs with multiple educational institutions, agricultural institutes, and forest departments to promote academic and field-based research.
WARSA collaborates with multiple MoU partner colleges, universities, government organizations, NGOs, and research institutes to facilitate internships. Students may register for internships through these collaborating institutions.

2. Objectives

Theprimary objectives of the internship are:

  • To document and conserveethno botanical knowledge,ensuring the preservation of traditional medicinal practices.
  • To provide practical training in plant identification,cultivation,and processing for medicinal and edible plants.
  • To engage students in research and product development related to medicinal plants and wild edibles.
  • To promote sustainable harvesting and conservation techniques for forest plant resources.
  • To integrate academic learning with field-based experiential knowledge.
  • To raise awareness about traditional healersand their practices.

3. Internship Categories The internship is divided into three main categories:

1. Medicinal Plant Identification and Cultivation

  • Field identification and collection of medicinal plants.
  • Herbarium preparation and Medicinal Plant Garden
  • Propagation techniques
  • Sustainable harvesting and processing methods.

2. Wild Edibles & NTFP
  • Identification of edible wild plants and their nutritional significance.
  • Sustainable harvesting andc onservation techniques.
  • Documentation of traditional recipes.
  • Study o fNon-Timber Forest Produce (NTFP)and its market potential.
3. Database Preparation of Traditional Healers and Community Awareness
  • Interviewing and documenting traditional healers and their remedies.
  • Compilingethno botanical knowledge

5. Internship Structure
  • The internship will be conducted over a period of 4 to 8 weeks.
  • The program will involve 10-12 hours of work per week, including field visits, workshops, and project work.
  • The credit system will be aligned with NEP 2020 guidelines, where interns will be awarded 2 to 4 academic credits, depending on the internship duration and completion of tasks.
6. Internship Responsibilities & Code of Conduct
  • Interns must maintain 80% attendance in field work and training sessions.
  • Ethical documentation is mandatory, and interns must obtain consent from traditionalhealers before collecting any information.
  • Sustainable practices should be followed in plant collection,ensuring minimal environmental impact.
  • Interns are expected to submit daily logs, mid-term reports,and a final report.
  • Participation in workshops and community engagement activities is compulsory.
  • Interns must ad here to WARSA’s professional and ethical standards at all times.
7. Internship Assessment Criteria Interns will be assessed based on:
  • Fieldwork Performance- (30%)
  • Documentation (25%) – Quality of reports, proper citations, and depth ofanalysis.
  • Participation in Activities(20%)–Active involvement in training sessions and community awareness programs.
  • Final Presentation & Report (25%) – Clarity, scientific rigor, and completeness of thefinal research submission.
8. Registration and Membership Details
  • Registration fees – 1000 Rs for UG student and 1500 for PG students
  • Membership provide saccess to MoU collaborator institutions for internship enrollment.
  • Payment can be made online in WARSA account.
  • Interested students may submit registration form along with fees and required documents
